A showcase of local talent: Leopard Arts and Mearns Writers, two North-East arts platforms, share work from their communities of poets and writers. Grassroots local arts at its finest.

Leopard Arts is an organisation founded to publish and promote art in Aberdeen from across disciplines. We believe that Aberdeen has a lot to offer when it comes to art, with many disparate and yet vibrant scenes working parallel to each other. Accepting work in multiple mediums: poetry; prose; visual art; film; music; fiction; non-fiction, and more. We take submissions from anyone in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire. Visit to explore our catalogue.

Mearns Writers began life in 2007 under Aberdeenshire Council Adult Literacy services, with the tutelage of Alistair Lawrie.

Since early 2015 it has been an independently constituted community group, encouraging and supporting writers across all genres and styles, throughout the south of Aberdeenshire and beyond. It is managed by a small committee and still tutored by Alistair Lawrie. The group focuses on promoting good writing, inclusivity and supporting emotional wellbeing.

Groups meet to share and critique work, inspire and be inspired, weekly during term time. We hold occasional workshops with professional writers, through Scottish Book Trust.

Since Covid, meetings have been conducted via Zoom, and more recently in hybrid sessions at Stonehaven Community Centre. Among our number are several writers with prizes and publications under their belt. We have produced several anthologies and podcasts. Members attend local events such as Across the Grain, Doric Call My Bluff (Winners) and The Wee Gaitherin’.

We welcome all comers of any level, including those new to writing.

Our writers at WayWORD 2022 include:

Alistair Lawrie

Elaine Morrison

Emma Myatt

And others, yet tbc.
