‘Speaking of Sound’: Online Sound Art Workshop with Nathan Wolek

Tuesday 21st September 3.30 - 4.30 pm BST (Online)
Join this interactive online workshop with Professor Nathan Wolek of Stetson University, Florida, to learn about layers or specific features of the soundscape around you.
Nathan Wolek is Lydia Pfund Professor of Digital Arts at Stetson University, Florida. He has spent the last year as Fulbright scholar at University of Aberdeen. Among his many activities, he is involved in Young Sound Seekers, a community outreach program that creates opportunities for blind and partially-sighted youth to learn about natural soundscapes and audio field recording at Canaveral National Seashore in Florida. This WayWORD workshop will highlight some of the activities designed as part of the curriculum to help students develop a more robust vocabulary for effectively communicating what they hear.
Participants will have the opportunity to try out some of these activities for themselves in the workshop and build their own sonic vocabulary. The workshop is suitable for both sighted and blind participants and will emphasize the way inclusive design can help educators engage more diverse audiences.
Open to people of all ages and levels of experience who wish to enhance their perceptions of the sonic world and increase their vocabulary and artistic possibilities relating to sound.
