 Polish Scottish Choir

Sunday 25th September
3pm BST

Main Hall, King's Pavilion
, University of Aberdeen King's Campus

The Polish-Scottish Song Group led by Janice Reavell sing a selection of Polish and Scottish Songs.

The Polish-Scottish Song Group was co-founded by Agnieszka Waszkiewicz and Professor Ian Russell in 2011. Since then, the group has become a unique hub for cultural exchange between locals and city’s largest foreign-born community. Its diverse members – representing Poland and Scotland, but also many other nationalities – have performed traditional Polish and Scots songs across the North-East.

The group is hosted and coordinated by the Elphinstone Institute in partnership with local community members.

Singer and guitarist Janice Reavell was brought up in Aberdeen, influenced and taught by local source singers including Jeannie Robertson, Lizzie Higgins and Stanley Robertson. She began singing at Folk Clubs and Festivals in her early teens and travelled and recorded with bands such as Iolair, Lang Johnnie Moore and Highland Connection. She also has an interest in blues music and performed for many years with local blues band: Off the Tracks. She is Scottish Culture & Tradition ballad tutor and choir leader, a Feis Rois harmony tutor and workshop leader, and has been leading the Polish-Scottish Song Group since 2018. She performs with harmony-singing trio Choras with two other well-respected traditional singers, Aileen Carr and Barbara Dymock.
