ABOUT THE EVENT
A talk by UV Arts, a Northern Irish arts organisation, who are reclaiming the previously politicised walls of Derry. UV Arts create inspired murals with young people and children in Derry, often on walls where sectarian and paramilitary graffiti had previously been. In this talk they will discuss the significance and impact of words on walls in the context of the Troubles. Exploring how words plastered on gable ends can prevent a city from moving forward and prevent the next generations from crossing historical political divides, this discussion will consider the history of graffiti in the Troubles and why UV Arts believe it is important to reclaim their cities' walls and use them to tell different stories, using different words.
