Make Your Own Zines – Workshop with Olivia Hicks
TIME & LOCATION
ABOUT THE EVENT
Olivia Hicks will facilitate a workshop detailing how to create comics and zines. You will create both visual and verbal content, learning the various steps to allow your own ideas to come to the page, in words and pictures! Olivia Hicks is an artist and graphic novel writer and editor, with a PhD in in British and American Girls Comics from the University of Dundee. Her most recent workshops include Silly Zines: a Zine-making workshop for black writers and writers of colour based in Scotland. ‘Zines are a liberating medium,’ she says, ‘because they don’t depend on your art level.’ This workshop is open to writers at all levels, and no artistic or drawing skills are required!
Attendees should bring pens, pencils, scissors and a paper to the workshop. Drawing ability is not necessary - using collage or simply words in your zine is absolutely welcomed, but if you do think you will want to use collage, make sure you have materials (old newspapers, magazines, and glue) to hand. It helps if people can come to the workshop with some sort of rough idea of what they want to make a zine about.
Places for this event are limited.
