Join us for a screening of Nicky Larkin's documentary Abomination: A DUP Opera

Nicky Larkin is a writer/director living and working in Belfast. In 2020 Larkin directed and produced Abomination: A DUP Opera. The documentary follows the creation of The Belfast Ensemble’s radical DUP Opera, composed by Conor Mitchell. The opera took verbatim homophobic statements by DUP politicians and put them to music, exploring the power of words around LGBTQ+ experience.  Larkin documents the production of this provocative opera against the backdrop of the coinciding implementation of marriage equality in Northern Ireland. A screening of the 45minute documentary will be followed by a Q&A with director Nicky Larkin.

Larkin studied Fine Art in Galway and Chelsea College of Art, London. Before moving into filmmaking, he worked primarily as a video installation artist.
